Welcome

Giving to Layman

This site is specifically set-up for those who would like to donate electronically to Layman Church.  "Why, O God why, would I do that?"  If you're wondering that, please put away your credit card and step away from the computer.  No one will be injured, we promise!

If, on the other hand, you find it more convenient to give this way, feel free.  Just please don't go into debt to give to Layman.  Our mission remains the same: "Glorify Jesus by helping people learn how to follow him."  And we're pretty sure that means us not begging for money and you not spending so much that the bank owns your first-born.

What Happens to the Money I Give?

We use it for junkets to Vegas.  I mean, really- if you want to reach sinners, you have to know what they're like, right?  Besides, betting in Vegas really helps my prayer-life!  OK, OK- if you know Layman Church, then you know where the money goes.  We help house, clothe and feed people.  We send missionaries and support the Rescue Mission.  We pay for electricity, water, coffee! (I really like coffee!).

Why should I Think Twice Before Giving?

Great question, thanks for asking!  If you're giving with the idea that God will love you more for it (or heal your sick cat, etc), put your money away.  We're not interested in Televangelism.  If you're giving because you think it impresses the leaders at church or will win you favor with certain people, forget it.  Homey don't play that game.  If you're drowning in debt and believe that you can give and yet continue to spend like there's no tomorrow and God will bless your spending, think twice!  God doesn't want your offerings, he wants your heart.  Then he owns everything and you can simply obey as he leads.

Why should I Give?

You should give only if you've prayed about it and feel led by God to help support the ministries of Layman Church.  You should give without expecting reward or special favor.  Grace is "unmerited favor."  That means, unearned.  If you could be good enough or give enough to get it, it wouldn't be grace.  Followers of Jesus give out of two things: gratitude and faith.  Gratitude for all God has done for us.  And faith that he will meet our needs as we trust him with our finances.  And, in the end, it all belongs to him anyway.  We're just managers of what God owns.

Hopefully that'll give you a basis for understanding giving.  If, after reading, you still feel led to give, feel free.  If not, that's OK- God's not gonna curse your cat!  I'm pretty sure of it...  :-)
